Embedded Wireless Solutions Design West Booth

Laird Technologies recently exhibited its Embedded Wireless Solutions at Design West 2013 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. This three-day technical conference  featured more than 250 exhibitors and offered  over 150 technical lectures, panels, tutorials, certification programs, and hands-on training sessions. For more information about Design West conference and exhibition, click here.

The Laird booth at Design West was part of the M2M Zone, which featured embedded machine-to-machine (M2M) for a variety of applications and markets. In addition to Wi-Fi, Classic Bluetooth and RAMP (Range-Amplified Multipoint) modules, the Laird booth showcased the newly released BL600 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)  module.  BLE applications were a hot topic of discussion for many show attendees.  Some of the advantages of the BLE protocol are:

1. Low power consumption, operating for months and even years on a single coin cell battery
2. Small size and relatively low cost
3. Compatibility with a large installed base of mobile phones, tablets, and computers

What sets the BL600 apart is Laird's smartBASIC, is an event-driven programming language that enables standalone operation of the module whereby sensors can be attached via any of the interfaces without the need for an external processor. A simple smartBASIC application encapsulates the complete end-to-end process of reading, writing, and processing of sensor data and then using BLE to transfer it to any Bluetooth v4.0 device – smartphone, tablet, gateway, or computer. Ultimately smartBASIC accelerates initial development, creation of prototypes, and mass production by providing you with your own BLE expert within the module.
