Laird RM1xx Combines LoRa & BLE- Enabling EIoT for Miles

Today Laird announces the new RM1xx series of modules which innovatively combine Bluetooth® Smart technology with LoRaWAN

into one module for the first time. The RM1xx series offers a powerful, convenient solution designed for long-rage Enterprise Internet of Things (EIoT) deployments. The modules aggregate and transmit data from Bluetooth® Smart or BLE devices and sensors over the LoRa® protocol to gateways as far as 15 km (~10 miles) away.

The RM1xx features Laird’s field-proven smartBASIC programming language. smartBASIC enables developers to create event-driven, hostless applications quickly and easily.

The module is ideal for a number of applications. For example, in an industrial setting the RM1xx can monitor sensors on water, fuel, and chemical tanks throughout a facility via wireless BLE technology or any traditional I/O connections. It can then aggregate and relay that information back to a central server alerting plant managers to dangerous tank levels before an outage or catastrophe occurs. BLE sensors consume very little energy, so each tank sensor can last for years on a single coin cell battery, saving the management company time and money replacing batteries.
