The NX040: Now Part of the Click Ecosystem

Our Sera NX040 is an innovative integration of the best wireless silicon from NXP and Nordic Semiconductor, a novel Ultra-Wideband (UWB) module that’s designed for low power ranging and positioning in challenging environments. It’s a reliable, secure, real-time way to add location sensing to the applications that need it most, such as warehousing, logistics, smart cities, factory automation, and more.

The UWB 4 Click, based on our Sera NX040, now joins the ecosystem of Click boards by MIKROE. Click boards represent a massive collection of pluggable boards designed to integrate easily into a wide array of development boards and simplify the process of testing and designing new combinations of hardware.

A Simplified Way to Create Powerful New Designs

With no soldering and no wiring, MIKROE’s Click board ecosystem represents a simpler way for developers to add on components to new designs with a unique hardware platform and comprehensive software support.

At the core of the Click boards’ design is their unique socket standard, the mikroBUS connector – a standardized 16-pin connector that provides communication pins, PWM, interrupt, analog input, reset, chip select, and power (3.3V and 5V). They’re available in multiple hardware variants (small, medium, and large form factors), but all share the same base hardware connector. With Click boards, you can add functionality piece by piece onto your base development board. Most Click boards are designed to add one component or feature at a time, creating a highly modular way of adding and developing hardware into your prototype designs.

This ecosystem of boards is always growing (1,648 unique Click boards are available at the time of this writing), and they’re built to address virtually any need that an electronics designer could have. There are click boards to add LEDs, motors, various wireless add-ons, gyroscopic sensors, and more. All of these share a common connector and hardware pinout, making it extremely simple to add and remove components as you perfect your design.

All of these are supported by MIKROE’s mikroSDK, which is designed to make application code portable and reusable on multiple platforms with minimal change to the code itself. By making code portable across architectures and host boards, you can truly explore a wide array of hardware options for your application. It’s a truly flexible framework that puts the developer first – simply write a new board definition file and port your design to completely new hardware and evaluate to find the solution that meets your application best.

All of this also comes with access to MIKROE’s extensive code base, with sample applications and detailed documentation for each board. MIKROE’s LibStock repository provides pre-made libraries and examples that you can leverage to quickly integrate hardware into your prototype design with minimal effort.

The UWB 4 Click – Ready to Go Out of the Box

The UWB 4 Click comes pre-programmed to develop out of the box with our Canvas Firmware and AT Command application. It’s based on our module part # 453-00174, and comes with two pre-certified antennas (EUB5850A3S-10MH4L and 001-0022). It’s ready to go for OEMs interested in integrating two-way ranging functionality into their designs. The UWB 4 Click, like all MIKROE’s Click board offerings, is also supported in the microSDK via MIKROE’s Necto Studio. Sample code is available to help you jump-start your two-way ranging application and integrate the NX040 into your existing design.
