Throwback Thursday: RF Design Considerations White Paper

Earlier this year, Laird published its most popular white paper to date, RF Design Considerations, which helps readers understand the complexities regarding RF design. When developing a wireless product, RF hardware design is complex and oftentimes a challenge. Many factors must be considered. For example, parasitic effects that are not typically a concern in low frequencies can have a major impact on RF performance as you move into higher frequency ranges. Additionally, different wireless hardware designs require special certification requirements, and designing and testing wireless hardware takes a special set of skills and equipment.

The white paper explores key components of RF design and their implications on system performance including:

  • A review of RF and the characteristics engineers should be aware of
  • Basic components and how to manage potential parasitic effects in complex models
  • PCB design characteristics including impedance matching, transmission line, antenna selection and placement
  • How to work around parasitic effects in PCB designs
  • DFX considerations
