Now Even Better With Our Latest Production Firmware

Our Vela IF820 is our latest Bluetooth Dual-Mode offering, a product that gives OEMs a path forward for legacy Bluetooth Classic applications and a route to the future of Bluetooth LE designs. The Vela IF820 is available in surface mount and pluggable USB form factors, and provides multiple ways to develop: Full C Code, standard HCI UART interface, and our implementation of Infineon’s EZ Serial software.

EZ-Serial is a UART-based CLI for use with an external host MCU for AT Command-like operation. We dramatically accelerate our customers’ developments with Python sample applications for some of the most common Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth LE applications.

EZ-Serial includes python scripts to test applications such as Bluetooth Classic’s Serial Port Profile, Bluetooth LE capabilities like custom GATT services, and CYSPP for virtual cable replacement over Bluetooth LE.

Now, in our GA2 firmware release, we bring further enhancements to EZ-Serial’s operation on the Vela IF820. These enhancements come in the form of performance improvements, new functionality, and better debug to make developing and implementing the Vela IF820 better than ever before.

What’s Changed?

The most important changes to our EZ-Serial firmware include the following:

  • Improved SPP throughput. Optimizations to our firmware enable better and more consistent serial port profile throughput.
  • New Python scripts for automated throughput testing. In addition to better throughput, we now provide scripts to verify and validate your serial port throughput, making it easier for OEMs to develop with confidence in SPP reliability.
  • Support for internal LPO or external 32KHz crystal. OEMs can choose between the module’s internal low power oscillator for timing, or an external 32KHz crystal. For the best power consumption and highest timing accuracy, an external crystal is recommended. The module’s internal LPO is now also supported. Separate firmware variants are provided for each.
  • Otimized DVK probe firmware. The RaspberryPi RP2040 microcontroller onboard the IF820 DVK is now optimized for the best possible USB to UART throughput. We recommend updating to this latest firmware for the best throughput and stability fixes.
  • Updated HCI firmware options. New HCI firmware is available, designed for use with the modules’ internal LPO. There are two variants available, one for internal antenna and one for external antenna.
  • Updated documentation and web content. Our Software User Guide has been updated to reflect the changes in our GA2 software release, as well as our Vela IF820 USB Adapter User Guide which includes instructions on updating DVK probe firmware and updates on the HCI firmware.
